Expose It
A poem about shining light on the internal challenges that we face
A loud noise
Followed by the annoying sounds of crepitation
Another malfunctioning hinge
One more thing to add that needs fixing
Where to put it on the never-ending list
*
Every addition already deemed a priority
When it contributes to constant aches and pains
Body failing me both physically and mentally
Trying to reach out for air
While I am drowning in torrential rain
*
The physical body to an extent can be assessed
But sometimes the darkness that clouds the mind hides
Only shows itself to the one whose body it has possessed
Tries to deter you from reaching out
Muffles your cry
*
That voice takes center stage inside your head
Telling you to put bandages on invisible wounds instead
The truth is in what can be seen
As no one will be convinced
Unless they know it is physically there
*
Slowly
You begin to believe that this fakeness is real
That beneath those bandages you placed
Are physical wounds: scrapes and punctured skin
that will soon be healed
*
As time goes by nothing changes
The bandages begin to fall off
But the cuts and bruises on the inside
Are still gnawing at you constantly
Relentless in the destruction that they have caused
*
There’s no point in trying to hide it
In pretending it isn’t there
The best advice is to shine more light on it
That’s how you begin the healing process
