No matter the hours slept,
My eyes fall heavily
No matter the amount of caffeine,
My mind's still lost in the fog
When adrenaline is more of a rollercoaster ride,
My body fails to regulate, and illness prevails
If you ever see me smile,
It's because I'm ahead of the demons in my race,
Yet, before the shift ends...
I'd have seen someone's worst day,
Been scolded for leading with grace
And when the silence brings peace,
It's only then that I fall apart
Thankful to come home another day
Because each shift feels more like war
And I find myself wondering, can I do this anymore?
