Everything Is Under Control
The louder they repeat it, the less we believe it

Everything is under control.
The minister says it with perfect confidence.
The graphs rise exactly as expected.
The experts smile.
The microphones nod.
The applause arrives before the facts.
Questions are postponed.
Doubts become bad manners.
The future is carefully scheduled
between two reassuring speeches.
Everything is under control.
The rivers are warmer.
The forests are smaller.
The cities grow louder,
yet silence has become the safest opinion.
We rename problems
until they sound like opportunities.
We celebrate efficiency
while standing in longer lines.
We praise transparency
behind darker glass.
Everything is under control.
Children learn statistics
before they learn patience.
We measure attention
in seconds,
friendship in notifications,
success in followers,
truth in popularity.
No one is lying.
No one is listening either.
Everything is under control.
The lights remain on
long after the power has failed.
The speeches continue
long after the audience has gone.
The banner still hangs above the empty square.
No one removes it.
No one needs to.
Because the sentence has finally become true.
Everything is under control.
There is simply
no one left
to disagree.
