A poem for a woman

Asinine is the man who wishes to drown her in honey

Behold her in a farcicle golden dome

Chase her like she is the sheep and he the dog

Digging up the remnants of her shaken soul

_____________________

Eager to press her down like the crust in a pie plate

Flattening the pastry by pressing it under his thumb

Gracious is the woman who survives her burned edges

Holding full the fruit, bubbling warm

Inside her surprisingly sturdy shell

Juxtaposed between teeming and nonentity states

Killing herself to please them all

Loving and giving until every morsel is tasted

_______________________

More of her is always disposed through each harvest

Never succumbing to the harshness of winter

Only resting to ensure she provides her best

_______________________

Playing and praying are not only for children and church

Quieter in crowds of bawling babies and men, but far from silent

Rising and falling we hear her voice when she is stuck on repeat

_______________________

She does not learn her full strength in her younger days

Training for an infinite marathon of smiles and tears

Until a time comes when she can understand

Varied levels of pain, wisdom, strength and fear

Will, if allowed, lead her to times of joy and peace

Xenophobia and sexism become blurred or have passed

You can tell her a lie but, be warned, she may know

Zenith is patiently waiting and within her grasp.

Congratulations! What a strong monument of a piece. I love so many parts of this, but I think my favorite line is "Eager to press her down like the crust in a pie plate." Gosh, your words are outstanding. And the feeling of "rising up" as this progresses just enhances the magic of it. Awesome job!
