Every Part
The opening piece to part one of my poetry collection

My whole life, I’ve been stuck
within this never-ending skin
—
full of hundreds of bones,
joints that groan and moan
—
Arms, legs, feet, hands
blood that pumps, air that flows, limbs that move
—
Eyes to see, nose to smell, ears to hear
Every little thing in service of us, to keep us going
—
We all have one that stays with us forever
It’s up to us how we treat it
what we put in it
what we do with it
—
Every day we wake up with it, go to bed encased in it
every movement,
every choice we make,
it comes along
—
It reaps the consequences of decisions made by us all
Why can’t we decide to love every part
until we fall?
