A Conversation

“What do you search for?”

“Peace. You?”

“Vengeance.”

“You can find one in the other.”

“You will find both in each other.”

“But which do you value more?”

“Neither, to me, one cannot exist without the other.”

“Fish to water?”

“No. Water would still be, even if the fish were not.”

“Then what?”

“More like, inhale to exhale.”

“Cause and effect.”

“Yes. The pull and push of the tide. One follows the other.”

“But peace can exist without vengeance.”

“Perhaps, if you have lived a life devoid of the unjust.”

“I have no enemies.”

“None that you can see.”

“Or name.”

“That does not make them non-existent.”

“But how do I exact revenge on a phantom, on the unknown?”

“By finding peace.”

“And have you?”

“Found peace?”

“Or retribution?”

“No.”

“What's stopping you?”

“I face an enemy as determined as the vigilante I try to be.”

“Who?”

“Me.”
