The words come tumbling from her mouth like a school yard confession where the thoughts aren’t fully formed but it’s better to have them out before the courage is gone, and when she finally takes a breath it’s more of a gasp, in desperation for equilibrium.
The silence lasts forever.
Seconds have a way of doing that.
The blue eyed girl takes a bite of her apple before tucking the loose strands of fringe behind her ear and despite the complete lack of a sound resembling a laugh loudly proclaims for all to hear that she is so funny!
Then turns away.
Tossing the apple as she leaves.
She smiles like the world wasn’t just robbed of all its oxygen and spins the ring on her left hand to keep the tremble from her fingers, but the reddening of cheeks is a worse betrayal than the shifting of the ground beneath her feet.
Some closets are better left unopened.
Some outfits, unworn.
