A Poem

The clocks go back,

And the world is the same.

As it was before,

With the intact name.

If only it were as easy,

To go back years,

And wipe away the time,

And unshed our tears.

Soak up all the rain,

Cast back the nights,

Undo the hurt,

From all the pointless fights.

Watch the winter warm,

And a as fallen tree ascends,

And welcome back,

Lost lovers and friends.

The sunset will rise,

And the world still turns,

But from the ashes,

Resurrect what burns.

What good is now,

When the past is rewritten?

Oh that’s no way to live,

Nostalgically bitten!

There is life ahead,

Undiscovered to traverse,

For the past is a mirage,

With your memory a curse.

You can never undo,

What you’ve never let lie,

To inspect your own fault,

Asking yourself “Why?”

There is no magic,

In childish dreams,

Left unrealised,

Despite tantrums and screams.

Now is where you make,

The life you desire,

Gifting yourself meaning,

And purpose that’s higher.

You are someone’s memory,

That they’ll recall one day,

And make them sweet or ill,

By what you do and say.
