ENOUGH
because you already are
snow white skin is dyed tan,
glistening black is bleached,
brows painted thick and thin,
another hour starving
to fit those too small jeans
instead of sizing up.
.
yet another selfie
trying to lift your mood,
just a hundred more likes
surely should be enough
to feel that last time rush,
when they called you pretty
.
sensitivity dulled
as you paste chemicals
of colour on silk hair
and pollute mother earth,
no awareness of cost
to true experience.
.
packing gel pads in bras
and pants to look fuller,
all body hair removed,
eyelashes are glued on,
looking like someone else
to become attractive
.
products line your shelving
promising everything
from clear skin to slimming,
pempto-pimpto-peptides
to help you like yourself
when you remove the mask
.
can self esteem be sold
by the same industry
who tells “you’re not enough”?
showing unreal photos
of women you admire
causing you such dismay
