Elegy to the Fleeting Horizon

A Poem

Horizons fade as twilight wraps my eyes.

I am surrounded by the hopeless night.

The stars have disappeared behind the clouds

And shine no more, though they were just as dead

Where they reside, as I am dead inside

The soles upon uneven pavement, cracked.

My rubber’s worn and gives beneath my heel,

My life’s retort to all my weighted thoughts.

My spine is bending rules and rulers break

Their own and strip the air from wandering youth.

I kept a shard of Dream inside my heart

That dug a little deeper in my core,

But years are flying through my blood like darts

And Dream becomes Infection in my soul

And rots my brain—despair and hopelessness.

I wake to life, and take a look around.

The godless laughs of hopes now hit the ground.

—

I am the last stinging bee, and I have stung an empty world.

I guess now I fade.

Someone else shall drink the honey left behind.

I hope you find a reason to love madness.
