Elegy for a Lost Soul

A poem about loss

By Ben CurranPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

The world grows dim, a sudden, stark eclipse,

When laughter dies upon beloved lips.

A hollow ache where joy once used to bloom,

Now echoes silence in an empty room.

The air is thick with what can't be unsaid,

A heavy cloak, this blanket of the dead.

Each memory, a bittersweet embrace,

A phantom touch, a whisper in this space.

Tears fall like rain upon a barren land,

A thirst for solace, no one understands.

The simplest sights, a song, a scent, a name,

Ignite the flicker of a grieving flame.

A part of self, irrevocably torn,

A ship adrift, battered and weather-worn.

And though the sun may rise and day may break,

The heart remembers, for love's own dear sake.
