Electric Skin
Different to the rest and the best

Electric Skin
They looked at all the colour
And thought that was the story
Like brightness means happiness
Like glowing means glory
Nobody asked the reason
For rivers down my face
Nobody saw exhaustion
Hidden in a painted place
I learned to wear the sparkle
Before I learned to speak
To hide the parts that trembled
To disguise what felt weak
Eyes full of galaxies
Lips dressed up in light
Pretending I was fearless
Pretending I was alright
Every mark had meaning
Every line had a name
Some came from being forgotten
Some came from carrying blame
People called me beautiful
Like that explained it all
Never seeing painted stars
Can still eventually fall
So I stood beneath the silence
With colour dripping slow
Wondering if anyone
Could see what I did not show
Not broken not empty
Not asking to be saved
Only wanting one person
To notice what remained
If I washed away the glitter
If I left my face undone
Would I still be worth seeing
When all the light was gone
Until then I stay glowing
Not for praise not for fame
Just trying to remember
I existed before the flame
