Dilly-dallying is for fools and squirrels, my mother always said
In our kitchen when I was procrastinating getting ready for
School. I thought she was being silly (weren't squirrels also fools?)
Though I understood what she was saying:
Ready or not, be ready to go.
After I met you I clung to every last minute like I was going to
Crumble to dust without your hands to hold me together;
These days I sit alone in a bruised apartment and watch the squirrels
In their quest to conquer the slippery windowsill that used to be
Ours. The window offers solace and a welcome distraction. I
Never was ready to let you go.
