A work in progress
my colors merge and shift
eddy and dissolve
as my tide retreats
This crucible of scars seared scarlet
now a washed purple
painted on sand
burnished in depths
Glancing through amber my son pauses
traces his fingers on the strokes
then surges away
a tumble of gold in green
Even before I knew
pieces of me were shorn
pink went first
azure drifted after
I resist the fade
sheathe myself in color
a swash of blue-green
a slash of cadmium red
Aching for remembered bloom
I submerge myself
in his fearless kaleidoscope
and find
My palette has expanded
the tide turns
I am again awash in color
no nearer completion.
