Easy silence

While we're in our own minds.

Side by side

No suffering in this kind of quiet.

Comfortable peace and mindfulness

A rarity these days -

Grown up to be go go go!

I'd be up later and later

Just to hear the sound of my own breathing

Out of rhythm with my parents' snoring.

I would sit and stare at the mosquitos, hovering

And enjoy the grounding, solid sound of my own heartbeat.

To just breathe, and be nearby

To just be, and exist in some quiet

Company of comfort

Like we'd known how to walk in sync

From the very beginning.

Impossible to not enjoy

Time spent, easily

In that humble, momentary quiet.
