Earth Day

2025

Every day should be Earth Day, a day when we step outside and marvel at the earth we live on. At how blue the sky is and how every cloud is different. How every tree stands in place, and every flower blooms without any idea of how beautiful they are. How the breeze rustles leaves and flags, and clothes hanging on clotheslines wave deliriously to and fro. The water sparkles from the sun's light over a sky blue reflection, and for a moment in time all the world is right.

Where the stars wait patiently all day for their time to shine, and maybe they're competing to be the first one seen as the sun makes her dramatic exit. Her golden gown flowingly draped across the sky, with an elegant flourish she pulls it down below the horizon. The moon, high above, nods farewell to the sun - his pale face beaming with her light. It's a passing of the light that has been since the beginning of time, a seamless shift change. The nocturnal creatures wake from their daytime sleep and forage under the moonlight lighting their way.

It's a wonderful world, an amazing creation down to the tiniest spore. It's an incredible earth, as diverse as the life upon it. From mountains to deserts to valleys, from oceans to rolling hills to flat plains and everything in between. We were given the ability to see beauty and recognize it, but do we? Do we admire a sunrise and feel the hope it offers and romanticize a sunset? Do we close our eyes and feel all of Creation living and breathing around us? We should look around more often.

Every day should be Earth Day.

“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
