When I write about this or want to write about it, I don’t always know how to put it into words.
So writing this poem is a start.
Because as well as writing things that come from the mind, I can write things that come from the heart.
Now here we go: I will set free the bluebirds.
Dyspraxia. I have oral, global and physical dyspraxia.
My speech has improved significantly since I was a young child.
My dyspraxia now is very mild.
My coordination has improved.
I always used to be halfway down the field in a school race whilst the others had finished.
Apparently I could not jump.
Now I run three times a week. I do Parkrun, running club and efforts.
From when I was little my confidence has significantly grown.
Eye contact. I was awful at eye contact. I would look around the room when someone was talking to me.
Now I am good at eye contact and find it very helpful and beautiful to see the emotions in people’s eyes.
Above most of my challenges of dyspraxia I rise.
I have the most loyal and funny friends, treasured since year nine.
I used to label myself and let the label become me. Because I didn’t know why I was different, I wanted a label.
Labels are damaging. Don’t let it define you. No one is a label. Dyspraxia is part of me but I am not dyspraxia.
