Dying at Dawn

Out of Order challenge

a light so bright

early morning hours

a killer on the loose

machines beeping

sterile sheets on this cot

I must find the one with blood on his hands

are the dogs okay at home

I feel like I am running

I can feel my heart beating in my chest

the light is bright above me, it is hurting my eyes

the beeping of the machines is bothering me

the killer is still on the loose

I must find him and bring him to justice

I hope the dogs are okay

ouch and what is that prick, is that a needle

I must find the killer

the bright light is blaring

I can feel the curls of Rick's puppy in my finger tips

cardiac enzymes the voice said

people are hurrying about

I know from my training what that means

I can't be having a heart attack now

nurses barely are moving

doctors are floating in the air

sat up and looked at the doctor

"Don't let me die, I haven't found the killer of my son yet"

his voice comforts me

"No One Dies Here Tonight"

This poem is based on a true event. My son Rick was murdered on March 27, 2015. I took to the streets to find justice for him, and to find his killer. On April 17, 2016, I had a heart attack in the emergency room. This was my experience.
