Dreams II

A poem

In dreams,

the floor begins to melt away

the cities become puddles

the whole world a sea,

-

choppy waves

with bite

gnaw at raw legs

-

lost in the dark,

searching for rest.

-

Stuck in a state of shutdown,

the paralysed onlooker

panics, burrows down

and, head buried, does nothing.

-

Embalmed under throbbing waters,

he claims to feel safety

scared to admit the truth,

afraid to face his own face,

reflected, unreflective,

always looking, external,

lusting.

-

She sits within the sky, clouds for hair

an elevated creature.

-

And though she reaches out, kind-faced,

he moves away, he retreats

and he separates,

-

he dissolves into the water,

he chooses to drown

rather than to be held,

-

he chooses to die

rather than to heal.

-

He wakes up puzzled,

troubled by his subconscious,

more alone than ever

the city ambience a harsh grind,

throttling.

-

Feet dangling momentarily,

he sits, suspended,

then brings his feet down

into a cold liquid embrace.

-

Defective again,

sparks flying,

free at last

or simply broken,

a slow descent

towards a new bottom

chasing ghosts

where other daren’t steal glimpses.
