A poem

A decade since we last spoke

but I still dream of you

-

Oceans between us,

that distance closed by night

-

and every time I wake up,

alone in the sprawling darkness

-

I close my eyes

and try to reel your presence in,

-

my mind cast back to the last embrace,

that prolonged moment of bliss

-

the first truly loving touch I'd ever known

the comfort, the weight off,

-

the silent acceptance,

all artificial, but

for a moment

it was real.

-

Now I'm here, in the dark

alone

-

the pressure mounting, again,

more desperate than I've ever been

-

to be in that one moment,

silently held

in the warmth of your arms.
