Dove Gray Sky

Promises of Overnight Rain

Our Western Washington skies are back to gray, as promised by the weather forecasters.

The temperature has dropped about ten degrees and

my thumbs protrude from the shirt thumbholes, but the breeze

makes me wish I wore mittens.

Shades of gray hover above, the rain holding, holding - but it promises to wet the streets, and sprinkle the flowers.

It is certain that rainshowers will splash the grass and plants, fill the streams.

All will be drenched in the night.

The birdbaths will swell with fresh H2O.

Feathered dumplings will splash the rainwater out, then beg for us to fill them, easier than winging across to the pond.

Green, tiny tree frogs will sing loudly in the rain, hiding in plain sight,

maybe nestling in a rose or inside the non-capped metal fence post.

~~ ~We won’t see the stars or the half-moon for days now, with

this Pacific Northwest sky draped heavily in dove gray.

From another gray skies area I can relate though we have tiny wood frogs in some places that overwinter frozen. I see your writing when I look outside at the low clouds painting everything in the sky white to match the huge piles of snow on the ground. Great writing thank you

It’s cold and sleety where I am, too, so I can totally relate but would never be able to put it in poetic words so eloquently.
