Dottie Like I Used to Know

Now and then I think of when you were so little,

We could give you a bath right in the sink.

Now and then I think of how we’d play together,

Like when you’d pull all squeaky toys apart.

Now and then I think of when we’d go together,

Imagine walking without a Dottie companion.

Now and then I think of all the times you let me pet you,

I’ll remember you as such a cuddlebug.

Now and then I think of all our trips together,

Can’t imagine camping without Dirty Dottie.

Now and then I think of when we dressed you up,

There was the time you were a pirate, squirrel or shark.

Now and then I think of Christmastime together,

And how much you loved shredding wrapping paper.

Now and then I think of all the treats you ate,

And how you were always guaranteed a pancake.

Now and then I think of how you got so shaky,

Fortunate medicine could ease the shakes.

Now and then I think of all your graying fur,

And even before that just how much you shed.

Now and then I think of all the ones there to greet you,

Like Cocoa and Alice and probably even Krissy.

I’ll feel so lonely without your company,

Now we’ve come to the end, sadly the end.

But now, you’ll be Dottie like I used to know
