photo of my aunt, Pauline Florker - the poem's inspiration
Doris
without teeth
looked down
into a metal bowl of mush
thinking
a damn good thing
too
or they might have put her down
like the dogs
she crossed
one long
lean
leg
a twin
atop her sister
and said,
A damn good thing
two.
