Doors
By Julie Lacksonen
It is said when one door closes, another one is opened
Which doors along the way contain that for which we’re hoping?
I wish I could go back to peek in doors which were presented
To decide for certain which would make me feel contented
*
But, true to life, one must commit before getting the full story
You think you’re entering a place of happiness, security, or glory
And then, things may go sideways and prove that you chose wrong
In the past, you should have chosen other doorways all along
*
Now, many doors are closing, leaving people outside, reeling
Not knowing where to live or what to eat is a scary feeling
I think that we should all go out and open doors for others
The next door to slam shut may be your sister’s, or your brother’s
*
I'll show some human thoughtfulness, compassion on the way
Because one day, I may need someone to open a doorway
We never want a person to have neediness or strife
And helping may open a door to a peaceful afterlife.
