Don't Drink the Poison
Be cautious how you move onwards

Don't Drink the Poison
Don't drink the poison, however it gleams,
It creeps through your nightmares
It poisons your dreams,
It whispers so sweetly, pretending it's kind,
Then slowly takes hold of your body and mind.
It waits in the darkness, concealed from the light,
A beautiful danger that beckons at night,
It promises comfort, a moment of peace,
But once it has caught you, its grip will not cease.
It steals all your laughter and feeds on your fears,
It leaves you with heartache and oceans of tears,
It dresses in velvet and speaks like a friend,
But underneath lies a terrible end.
It creeps through your veins like a cold winter rain,
And leaves you imprisoned in sorrow and pain,
It steals every colour from all that you see,
And whispers, "You'll never be happy or free."
But somewhere a candle still burns in the night,
A flicker of courage, a glimmer of light,
A voice in the darkness cries, "Don't let it win,
There's still so much beauty and goodness within."
Don't listen to whispers that lead you astray,
Don't let all your hopes and your dreams fade away,
For poison can hide in the sweetest disguise,
Behind gentle words and the kindest of eyes.
So turn from the darkness and walk towards dawn,
Remember the person you were when first born,
Before all the sorrow, the heartache, the pain,
When sunshine could make you feel happy again.
Don't drink the poison, don't swallow the lie,
There's still a bright world underneath the blue sky,
Let hope be the strength that will help you pull through,
For life is too precious, and so, love, are you.
