Don’t Kill The Ants

I watched them carry their quiet world,

tiny bodies bent beneath invisible weight,

a kingdom moving beneath our careless feet,

a purpose that never once asked for praise.

They walked in lines that never broke,

as if each step held a sacred vow,

no voice to shout, no hand to guide,

only instinct whispering how to survive.

We tower above them without a thought,

our shadows falling like silent threats,

one careless motion, one passing mood,

and whole lives vanish without a sound.

Who gave us the right to end such things,

to crush what we do not understand,

to silence a story too small to hear,

as if its worth was less than ours.

There is something dark in the ease of it,

a flick of power beneath the skin,

a habit formed from unseen cruelty,

a quiet hunger to control and end.

I see myself in their fragile march,

in the way they carry what must be borne,

in the way they fall and rise again,

never asking why the world is cruel.

So I step aside and let them pass,

a small rebellion against the dark,

for mercy begins in the smallest place,

it grows in the heart that chooses not to harm.

And maybe one day we will learn,

that even the smallest life we spare,

is a mirror held up to our own,

showing who we truly are inside.
