Don’t Count Your Money
You think it’s all about your status? Big news it’s not

Don’t Count Your Money
Don’t count your money and call yourself rich
Coins make a sound, silence says more
I have seen empty eyes behind heavy doors
And hands that trembled while holding enough
You built your world from numbers and praise
Measured your worth in what others could see
Yet no gold follows a soul into darkness
No ledger records who you chose to be
The poor man laughed with worn out shoes
The wealthy man stared through polished glass
One slept deeply without fear at night
One watched every hour drag and pass
Do not mistake ownership for peace
Or comfort for something that lasts
Fortunes shift like weather and seasons
Nothing promised stays where it was cast
I watched people trade warmth for status
Trade time for a life left untouched
Their homes stood tall and full of objects
Yet none of it answered them much
Count kindness if you count anything
Count mornings you opened your heart
Count moments you stayed through the breaking
Not what was gathered apart
One day your hands will empty quietly
No pockets stitched into final rest
Only memories remain behind you
And love remembered does the rest
So don’t count your money endlessly
Do not bow to what fades away
Measure your life in who stayed beside you
Not what your account could display
