Does My Bum Look Big in This
I ask my honest husband

Does My Bum Look Big in This
Does my bum look big in this,
I ask with a twirl and a grin.
The mirror is cruel, but I hope
That he will soften the sin.
He looks up from his paper,
Eyes steady, calm as a stone.
No hesitation, no pause,
He answers in his tone.
No, your bum is just perfect,
Round as a peach in July.
But your belly, my darling,
Is stealing the sky.
I gasp, and I laugh in one breath,
The honesty cuts like a knife.
But better a truth from his lips
Than sweet lies for life.
So I stand in the hallway and giggle
At the man who knows me too well.
If I wanted pure flattery, darling,
I should have asked someone else.
For love is not built on pretending,
It is stitched with humour and cheer.
Even if my belly is bigger,
At least my husband stays near.
My belly is big, darling husband
But it’s all yours till we die.
