Do You Remember?

A poem.

12 months, 3 weeks, and two days.

The past, present and future have changed.

Between your gains and my losses

Me drowning in the fading moss

In the darkness of an ambiguous cause.

You’ve moved on to bigger things.

Money, fame, the dreams of kings.

In your heights of the palace balconies:

Sometimes, I wonder: do you remember me?

Do you remember the shine of the summer sky?

The days just past midsummer, so bright?

When I snuck out to see you right outdoors,

Not sure if you’d be wanting more?

Do you remember my blissful ignorance?

When I thought little of your sins?

From me to you, the secrets I’d tell,

While the marigolds bloomed from sunken wells?

Remember what I wanted: the truth,

About a dark affair only known to few?

The times that I tried to start a bond

But you saw right through and put me on?

What about my increasingly desperate trust?

And all the connections I had that you’d rust?

How I tried to pack my bags and hide?

But I couldn’t let go of where you reside…

Because I do.

No matter how the leaves grow and fall,

Even if you easily forget it all:

I remember.

Do you?
