Do Not Turn Around

A spooky poem

A shuffled step or crack of twig,

Better not to turn around

Something behind you, small or big?

Some things should remain unfound.

Fear, deep and primal, spikes in your mind,

Better not to turn around,

Should you look, what is it you will find?

Some things should remain unfound.

Don't look behind, don't turn your head,

Better not to turn around

That's how it takes power, not from words said

Some things should remain unfound.

Tell yourself it's the wind, nothing to fear

Better not to turn around

You are untouched, nothing draws near.

Some things should remain unfound.

It only has power, if power you give

Better not to turn around

Step steadily homeward, and you shall live

Some things should remain unfound.

There are a number of supernatural creatures that follow their victims initially, but only gain power over them when the victim turns around to see what is behind them.

This challenge made me think of that.
