DO I DARE?
What if?
^^^^^
As I lay in bed trying to sleep,
I felt the chill as it began to creep.
A bone-chilling cold that swept through the air
Making me know that something was there.
Ignoring the presence, I rolled on my side,
Hoping if I closed my eyes, I might be able to hide.
At long last, sleep did arrive,
In the morning, I thanked God I was alive.
But as I trudged along doing what I do every day,
I knew whatever it was, hadn’t gone away.
Do I dare to look? Force myself to be brave?
What if I don’t? Would the outcome be grave?
Should I look in the mirror? What reflection would I see?
A second’s glance and I saw only me!
Yet, whoever is there gets closer each day.
Perhaps tomorrow, the presence will have something to say.
I turn towards my door but the spirit’s getting bolder.
Whoever it is has now put his hand on my shoulder.
I’m about to scream out in unmistakable fear
As I hear him whisper, “I’ll always be here.”
