"Scratch, scratch, claw, claw..."
Scratch, scratch, claw, claw
Skin chips away, slowly exposing flesh
The newly confident man seeks inner truth
Scratch, scratch, claw, tear
He examines every vein and tissue,
Digging through the history of his being
Scratch, rip, claw, tear
He looks at his organs, trying to see what makes him tick.
Is it love? Is it self-discovery? Is it knowledge?
Scratch, rip, claw, tear!
The newly confident man rips open his rib cage.
He examines his heart, which is mostly intact, but bruised and scarred.
He wonders how much more he can take.
Smash, cut, rip!
The newly confident man examines his brain,
Digging through happiness, pain, hope, and despair, finding it all.
He puts his veins, tissue, organs, and brain on the table.
After much examination, he doesn’t quite know who he is,
or maybe he’s the same quiet boy trying to find himself all along.
