Dismal Food Scene

We need to be aware and disciplined

Much of the human timeline,

we gathered and hunted.

Then came agriculture,

followed by buying food.

Population grew,

more mouth to feed,

Businesses boomed,

Profit mongers prowled.

Chemicals were used

in growing crops,

in processing food.

Now food scene is dismal.

Chemical-tainted food

causing asthma, allergies,

leaky gut, diabetes, cancer,

and a litany of others.

I myself suffered from

respiratory distress and anaphylaxis

from eating yogurt, nuts, chicken.

My son's eczema aggravates,

with the processed foods.

My spouse's acid reflux,

arise from these tongue-tasty things.

The food material was not toxic,

the preservatives and additives were.

So, I grow some food in my garden

and eat purchased food with vigilance.

Organic food is safer but costly

in an era, when jobs are uncertain.

Most people have almost no land to grow,

no secure jobs to buy,

and purchased food is chemical-laden,

what a messy burden!

People, wake up.

do something about this issue

before it destroys us.

Chemicals are the Pandora’s box,

the epidemic we invited.
