Digging Out, Digging In

A rant that we will generously call a poem

One of my first polaroid pictures

You gain a new appreciation for reality

When you've been disconnected

Have you ever noticed

The cold wonderful feeling

Of a wheel

The slide of a turn

Completely in control

Have you ever noticed

The touch of the ground

Underneath your feet

How soft it is

Like you'll sink right in if you press down hard enough

Have you ever noticed

The color that the sky gets

After the noon chased the sun away

How palpable the dark is

But in a beautiful way

Have you ever noticed

How music hits the right spot

And makes any moment one that’s worth remembering

Every note creates its own space

Euphoric isn't it?

Get out of your own head,

Little inconveniences

Don’t create clouds.

Small moments

Don’t equal something larger, something unexplainable

Happiness isn't attained through petty acts

Through silences or ranged attacks

Logistically it makes sense

Don’t let it take you over

Drive you deeper,

Dig your own grave

Throw away the shovel and move on

Force a smile and the rest will come along

Your world is changing, nothing is the same

All that was familiar was buried and lost

To make way for something beautiful, something sweet

White noise is getting louder, you have to resist

If you let it win

What are you left with?

Maybe it's better that you say goodbye to it alone

That memory won’t be tainted with another soul

It’ll be yours to bare

Your own shoulders to drop the weight

Stop getting in your own way

If I don’t speak it, it doesn’t exist

If I write it down, maybe it’ll dissipate

Become water vapor

I want these thoughts out of my head

Out of the crevices, I want that space back

If I send it up into the air

It's no longer mine

But the worlds to hold

Maybe it'll cherish them as I did

Maybe it's smarter than I am

And it’ll throw them away at first sight.

One can only dream

Of a life laden without misery

You are stronger

The power you give them is temporary

Pull yourself out

Start again.
