Didn't know the hard life
Didn't understand the real struggle
The struggle of life in the ghetto
Didn't understand the hope
of young men and women
Striving to be something
Living in hell and striving for something
Reaching for something and
doing all they could to become
something in this life
Only had a mother
a dear mother being both
to all her children
Fighting whatever she could
to make them into something
And how a man respect for his
mother should not end in one moment
or one victory but how the respect
should be forever.
Didn't know about the oppression
of youth and making it
Didn't know about the regression
on race and being something
A man gotta do what a man gotta do
A woman gotta do what a woman gotta do
Be something and stand for something
Be free and be proud of who you are
That's life.
