Something I should tell you, but then I stopped

with an inhaled breath,

drunk going home, the party didn’t end,

when you raised your head.

Friends looked away, pretended not to know,

and so far from home.

So, the first to know but the last to leave

that kiss hanging there,

incomplete. Summer fading with the heat -

makes people crazy.

I should have known when you called me ‘baby’

that you wanted more.

I get that you won’t be coming over.

heartbreak
