Our children are ours born to be loved not fight at 18

Did They Ask Us Before They Sent Our Children To War 1943
Mothers standing silent by the gate,
Praying hard before it grew too late,
Fathers hiding tears they could not show,
Watching frightened young boys forced to go.
Nineteen forty-three the world burned red,
Countless dreams already cold and dead,
Letters folded deep in shaking hands,
Ships departing far to distant lands.
Did they ask the people filled with fear,
Did they hear the cries from every tear,
Did they stop to see the empty beds,
Or the nightmares circling in our heads.
Children barely old enough to shave,
Sent away to fight and fill a grave,
Marching proudly underneath the rain,
Many never coming home again.
Women worked while bombs tore through the skies,
Smoke and sorrow living in their eyes,
Sirens screaming through the blackened night,
Families trembling in the candlelight.
Young men carried burdens far too great,
Following the orders born from hate,
War consumes the poor more than the rich,
Leaves behind a cold unhealing ditch.
Even now old medals gather dust,
Stories buried slowly into rust,
Still the question echoes clear today,
Why must young lives always pay the way.
History remembers every scar,
Every mother broken down by war,
No one truly wins when nations fight,
Darkness only swallows up the light.
