DEVIL'S CIGAR

Uncommon and Rare

Mushrooms can be poisonous or edible you see.

However, the Devil's Cigar was a surprise to me.

It looks like a fuzzy brown cigar growing from the ground.

It's uncommon and rare, really hard to be found.

Few people have heard or seen that it hissed.

The capsule shape cigar can't be missed.

At the bottom of decaying cedar elm trees, it isn't tame.

The uncommon and rare mushroom has a Latin name.

In late Fall the three-inch fungus splits forming an orange star.

It's known as the Texas Star Mushroom or Devil's Cigar.

Amazed that a mushroom forms a perfect star shape.

It's officially Texas' state mushroom leaving mouths agape.

It's uncommon and rare, hard to be found.

If you are out on a Texas trail, listen for the hissing sound.

Writer's notes: Thank you for reading my uncommon and rare poem.

Unfortunately, Unsplash didn't have a picture of a Devil's Cigar mushroom. Therefore, a substitute picture was used.

However, if you are curious about this rare and uncommon mushroom, you can click here.
