a poem about not letting the past go

The weight of the past I still carry, for my fears are real

Will you hurt me? Will I have to re-heal?

Is it worth it... to start again?

Build a façade that we are at present friends?

As I trace the scars you created,

It doesn’t feel like they have faded

My heart was damaged and it's not meant to hate

But your blind eye, your willful ignorance, makes you no saint

‘Move on,’ you say, ‘let's leave it in the past’

Make something new in this aftermath

But who I am, my identity

Is intertwined with what used to be

For what you did, I was deeply affected

It changed my heart, left me feeling dejected

My soul can't un-remember the pain

It can't just sweep these memories away

Try as I must, I will smile and nod,

But my love is on reserve, and I feel like a fraud
