Destruction and Creation

That which cannot

The fire within is perilous

For those who cannot contain it.

A lifetime spent watering it down to ash—

Silence is a lady's duty,

Her defiance unspoken,

Her creation cursed

A portal

Between existence and nothingness.

Your truth called violent,

Your bitten cheek a reminder—

A flesh-bound reprimand

For all the words you should not say.

Too expressive. Too alive.

Authority questioned,

And you are left alone.

Why resist? they ask.

Let marriage bind your tongue,

Quiet your spark.

Too much, they said.

But was that love?

To extinguish the flame they once adored?

It’s for the best, they whisper.

Though it was your fire that drew them in,

Now they wish it smothered,

Its threat extinguished.

A mirror they fear,

A reminder of their own dimmed light—

Or a fire that never was.

But fire needs oxygen.

It craves the wildness,

The freedom to burn untamed.

So they suffocate the flame.

Do not speak of it.

Until—

You remember why they fear it.

An ember reignites.

Flames rise, burning bright,

Eyes ablaze with life.

Free.

The Inevitable.
