Destroying Storms With Her Embrace
A silent soldier of the people

Who is she, I hear so many query
That she can laugh at her pain,
She has befriended all her agony
It can hurt but never cripple again.
***
She is the mother of lightening
The daughter of a hurricane,
Searching throughout the light
To unshackle her rusty chains.
***
She is but a fierce fallen Angel
Revelling in her lonely wandering,
Dreaming of her wings of the past
Wings she regrets squandering.
***
She shattered and burnt her wings
To rescue those souls she cares for,
A sacrifice unwillingly for some, but
No sacrifice for those she adores.
***
She is a silent soldier of the people
Whose thoughts turn to stormy wind,
Battles rage in her immediate vicinity
Until the threats, the enemy rescinds.
***
Her tears turn to sharp tiny blades
With which she uses to slaughter,
Laughing in thunderous torment, as
Out of the storm sailed her daughter.
***
Now she has loving family by her side
She is free to gather up her pieces,
Chipped and broken as they seem to be
They’ll never be the scars of the defeated.
***
She uses her brokenness creatively
As she builds her crown of true beauty,
It shows her gains, losses and scars
And how she’ll never surrender her duty.
***
A crown she can never be denied
As she’s earned it with absolute grace,
She’s battle-scarred with hard won pride
Destroying storms with her embrace.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
