Desensitised

Thoughts of an Artist

By Dena MariePublished 8 years ago 1 min read

You’re too sensitive

they said

you need to stop feeling

everything so deeply

perhaps they are right

I thought.

Closing my eyes

I see warm vivid colours

all around me

fading into a cold palette of grey

the emotions

which stirred in me an ecstasy

to live life in its full vibrancy

disintegrate into ashes

on the ground.

My spark is gone

one which use to ignite

a dimly lit room

like the sun over sea

after a storm

I see myself in the mirror

a hollow faced girl

with blank distant eyes

How do you feel now?

they ask

how do I feel?

I feel numb.
