Descension Before Ascension

lyric

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago • 1 min read

Verse One
I learned that descension comes before ascension,
Each fall stripping pride from my reflection.
I searched the dark until it spoke my name,
For nothing sacred rises without walking through the flame.

Verse Two
I moved through rooms the daylight couldn’t keep,
Where every truth was buried twice as deep.
And every wound became a hidden well;
No tree can crown the heavens till its roots have broken hell.

Chorus
Descension before ascension—you have to go down before the climb,
You lose the shape you carried to become yourself in time.
Every light I bear was born from nights I knew too well;
No tree can reach the heavens till its roots have touched the depths of hell.
Descension before ascension—you have to go down before the climb,

Verse Three
I gathered pieces I had left behind,
The ones I dropped while trying to survive.
They shaped a path that only I could tell;
No tree can rise to heaven till its roots have been in hell.

Bridge
The ground may pull you farther than you planned,
But rising starts beneath the place you stand.
Let your old self shatter, let the silence speak—
The summit finds its meaning in the valley underneath.

Chorus
Descension before ascension—you have to go down before the climb,
You lose the shape you carried to become yourself in time.
Every light I bear was born from nights I knew too well;
No tree can reach the heavens till its roots have touched the depths of hell.
Descension before ascension—you have to go down before the climb,
From descension into ascension, I rise from where I fell.
