Depiction of Our Derecho Summer

A Shakespearean Sonnet

'Twas stormy weather brewing, August tenth

Pandemic chaos simply not enough

The inland straight-lines blew, derecho squall

Our homes and buildings fell with nature's huff

*

The winds were fierce, one-hundred forty tops

Uprooted many green and fam’ly trees

We counted days and weeks, no lights or air

Our streets and yards were crowded with debris

*

Amidst the wreckage time stood ever still

The people shocked, could not believe the scene

Announced disaster seven days delayed

Yet from our hearts, support and hope would glean

*

Embraces filled with love restored our trust

Our lack of power sparked the light in us

*

My family experienced the hardships of no electricity, gas shortage, and general chaos. Yet somehow, we were able to smile and make these memories during that time.

Thank you for taking the time to read my Shakespeare inspired summer sonnet! It was also inspired by the love/support from family, friends, and community following the midwest derecho storm last summer. Below are additional photos for those interested 🙏🏼❤️
