Demons, Darling

name them

Name your demons

in the darkest part of the night,

those fleeting seconds before

dawn comes barging in,

her rosy fingers prying the curtains

open, like a child at a birthday party,

opening presents that aren't his,

jealous of what's inside

without even shaking the box,

ripping the hinges off

Pandora

just as the light creeps in,

you and your demons

(what are their names?)

snuggled, spooned

like lovers. Aren't you?

You embrace each other

with the abandon

of those who've lost

everything

except each other.

Devoted devastation

whispering delicious lies,

voicing vows,

the broken shards of yesterday's

love that wasn't good enough

cutting into your clutching hands,

lacerating palms, filleting fingers

down to the bone.

Name your demons, darling.

You've thrown away

everything else

that ever knew your heart.
