Demon Doctor Gave Me Someone Else’s Eyes

He held the silver tray,

light flickered on the walls,

I heard no sound at first,

then a scream inside my head.

Bandages wet and heavy,

air sharp as metal,

a taste of iron in my mouth,

I could not move.

The mirror showed a stranger,

eyes burning green and black,

I touched my face slowly,

it felt like someone else.

Corridors whispered,

doors shut by themselves,

shadows in white coats,

hands too cold to be real.

The lamp buzzed above,

needles clinked softly,

he whispered take them,

I could not speak.

Steps retreated,

silence deep as water,

my eyes opened wider,

I saw what he hid.

Blood on the gloves,

a chart with my name,

the room tilted,

I clutched the chair.

Now I walk the street,

eyes that are not mine,

I see through strangers,

I cannot close them.
