DEI Hire

I am not just a color.

By Ramberto TorruellaPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

A DEI Hire

Is this how others perceive

Decades of hard work?

Does my darkened skin

Exclaim to treasured colleagues

Natural worthlessness?

My years of study

The late night labors learning

A waste of resource

Whose food did I steal

Standing a midwatch at sea

Serving our nation?

What wrong did I do

Questing for a part of our

American dream?

I’ve never wanted

Wanted another’s dream space

Only my own chance.

Am I DEI?

Why does that even matter?

Wasn’t I good enough?
