Author's Note: The photo above reminds me of the land across our field and it could be the mother deer with her 3 young ones. Our field is filled with alfalfa and other goodies and is ready for haying right now.

First there was a mom and two babies
Next was a momma and three fawns
The weather is beginning to make changes
Alfalfa is what they are after now readying for winters
harsh times. We have alfalfa in our fields.

The same deer and mommas are in our neighborhood
Is it because it is really not our neighborhood but their hood
Earlier in the year there were spotted babies
Now they look like mom only smaller male and females.

Hubby stopped hunting a few years back
He goes on deer runs every night on his 4-wheeler outback
How could he shoot and eat what he sees every night
He really misses them when they are out of sight.

My son hunted once and didn't kill the deer he shot.
That was the end of hunting for him when he heard the cry
of the deer and he knew he didn't want to hear that ever again
He was sad, and felt bad, and hasn't been hunting since then.
~
When dead alongside the road, he worries that it could be ours
It is such a relief to see that it isn't one of them.
So he never wants to kill a deer with one of our cars
We say in gratitude, "Thank you for keeping the critters
in the ditch, the birds in the air, and the bugs where they belong"
It may be a bit much, but living up north and in the country some
times a little extra help is needed. Am I wrong?

My brother from Texas is coming up to hunt this season
He says in Texas, you hunt at a feeding bin
the deer are standing around eating and you shoot them
no sport in that. He wants our brother to hunt with him.

John and our grandson have hunted our land,
we probably won't do that again, and
other than this, we won't tell others about our deer
John will miss them when they are no longer here.

We aren't big venison eaters, and friends and family
do share as we have great friends and a superfamily
Winter comes earlier than in the southern part
of our state. Our motorcycles are only apart
of early put away for the season. They are all three
being put away this weekend. It is happening early
this year. Between the deer hitting the hubby
and the season coming to an end we nearly
decided to go south this year. But we would miss
so much. So we will surely dismiss
that idea for this year, good thing I am happy-go-lucky!

Whitetail deer on a backroad close to my home.
In the deers woods on our property.
When John used to hunt.
