December 1st
It's time to feel it, live it, hear it, let's all enjoy some Christmas spirit
---
The little elf soared high in the night sky
He couldn't wait to see his friend
Last Christmas Eve he had to say goodbye
For 48 weeks so much joy and cheer he couldn't send
Now was his chance, tonight was the night
He had 24 days bursting with ideas as he took his flight
The little boy slept now, awaiting his return
Remember to avoid the faithful dog sleeping at his feet, in the last years he quickly learned
"I'll be silent and stealthy, I mustn't ruin the surprise,
The child will soon rise, quickly I must hide!"
He zoomed through the house admiring the Christmas feeling throughout
Warm and bright, they were ready no doubt
And now he was here to add to the cheer
He couldn't wait to see the happiness on his dear friend's face
As he soon found a shelf where he swiftly took his place
Excitement and love, pure in his heart
He donned his cheerful smile
Of the holidays, this was his favorite part
To see the child's eyes fill with light
If even for a little while
He knew magic was nearby
And so on that shelf, he waited patiently with a twinkle in his eye
The boy awoke with a smile, "That was the best dream ever!"
In this dream he saw his elf as he flew through, quiet and clever
"Mama, mama! I had the best dream," through his bedroom he burst
As he described it in detail, his face beamed
Then quickly he realized, it was December 1st!
"Wow, quite a dream you had!" his mother exclaimed
But he no longer heard
For through the house he ran, "he must have came!"
So he began his search
It was the first day of December, his dream did not lie
He'd been so good all year - or at least he had tried
He wandered around, searching high and low
And soon there he was, right next to a big Christmas bow
In his usual red, perched high on a shelf
With that cheery familiar smile, was his trusty scout elf
"Mama, he came back!" said the boy full of joy, "will he be here a while?"
"Seems he will be," replied his mother with a tired smile
"All the way to Christmas Eve," she said, gulping coffee quite hungrily
Seems I have a lot of work ahead of me, she thought
Though the joy it brings him could not be store-bought
And so, just as with everything else she does
She will do so with grace
Just to see that beautiful brightness light up his face
The joy and magic of the Holidays belongs to us, you see
Our efforts all worth it, for that innocence and glee
We pass it on and pass it down, out of love for the young ones we hold dear
So that they may experience a bit of magic
If only for a few more years
