Decades come and decades go

A timeline of change we all know

The roaring twenties, a decade of fun

Prohibition ended, jazz had begun

The thirties brought dark clouds to sight

The Great Depression cast a shadow of blight

But hope was restored through a war won

And the forties brought victory under the sun

In the fifties, the world saw a new light

Rock and roll music became an overnight delight

Black and white television took over homes

And Elvis Presley reigned as the king on his throne

The sixties were a time of turmoil and change

Civil rights movements ignited with rage

Hippies spread peace and love across the land

And the Beatles' music united us hand in hand

The seventies introduced disco and flairs

Electricity shortages led to energy affairs

Watergate scandal shook the nation's trust

But Star Wars proved that science fiction is a must

The eighties brought excess and greed

MTV revolutionized how music was seen

Breakdancing and hip-hop rose to fame

And Reaganomics promised a new economic game

In the nineties, the internet came to be

Technology advanced at a rapid degree

Alternative rock and grunge filled the air

And the world entered into the era of cellular pair

As we look back at the decades gone past

We see a history of change that will last

Each decade unique with its own flair

A storybook of time that we all share.
